Tait Electronics overhauls London Buses' radio network with Christchurch-made system.

Wednesday, November 30 2011 || News || BY The Dominion Post

London's 7500 buses are now controlled by a radio system, thanks to a $19 million job completed by Kiwi firm Tait Electronics.

Tait won the contract in 2006 to overhaul London Buses' radio network with a system designed and manufactured in Christchurch.

It allows controllers to communicate with drivers individually, in groups or to address the whole fleet at the same time, and drivers can quickly make "code red" emergency calls. Tait will now maintain the network.

Chief marketing officer James Kyd said London Buses was a big customer and the pro- ject had been a success that had helped Tait secure work from other European transport firms.
