Where's my Droid? reviewed

Friday, January 20 2012 || There's an app for that || BY Amanda Sachtleben

Forgetful you, clever me
Where’s my Droid?

For your: Android devices
Cost: free

Remember those keyrings that told you where your keys were when you whistled? The trouble was they’d always sound when the microwave beeped or the cat meowed for its dinner.

No such trouble with Where’s my Droid? It works on the same principle, but in this case you send a text message to help you find your cellphone. All you do is choose a word or phrase your phone will respond to. Then if you lose the device and it’s on silent, you text the word or phrase to your phone from someone else’s and your phone will start ringing on full volume.

If you want to get more technical, you can set a GPS attention word so the app will try to reply to your text with coordinates and a Google Maps link to the location of your phone.

You can also set a passcode to stop others messing with the app. And if your phone is lost forever, the Pro version allows you to remotely wipe all data.
