Channelling the capital’s creativity
Wellington Startup Weekend to "wrap teams around ideas".

It’s an exciting prospect for Creative HQ venture manager Nick Churchouse, one of the event collaborators.
“Startup Weekend pulls together motivated people with the disciplines and motivation required in a startup founding team. There’s no ‘abracadabra’, just what happens when you put smart people together with a bit of focus. It will be exciting to see what that creates.”
The other collaborators are WebFund, run by tech industry angel and entrepreneur Dave Moskovitz, and host the Biz Dojo.
One of the organisers - Paul Spence, chair of Wellington’s Unlimited Potential and co-founder of domain register iWantMyName, says the city is “bubbling over” with entrepreneurial talent in the tech industry, but needs a way to channel this creativity.
“This sort of event is a natural place for it. We want people to extend themselves and show their mettle; growing a web or software business is a hugely challenging, but rewarding endeavour that requires multiple skill sets, considerable determination and a little bit of good luck."
The weekend will see 100 entrepreneurs, developers, designers and mentors building web or mobile-focussed businesses, aiming to produce viable ventures in 54 hours.
