Govt to fund R&D internships

Ministry of Science and Innovation will offer up to 50 placements

Thursday, May 05 2011 || Science || BY Unlimited

The government will fund as many as 50 internships for post-graduate students to carry out research and development in businesses.

The programme helps companies employ post-graduate science, technology and engineering students by offering up to $30,000 plus GST per person towards a salary for up to six months.

It is open to all companies with R&D at the centre of their growth strategies, the government says.

Students are eligible if they are in the top 20% of their class in university engineering and science faculties, are in masters or doctoral programmes and will complete a degree before 1 January 2012 or have graduated within the last six months and not be employed.

“The government is building better connections and increased collaboration between the science and business communities. These internships contribute to this goal,” says Minister of Science and Innovation Wayne Mapp.

Applications close on 31 May this year. Apply at msi.govt.nz
