Wellington Chamber of Commerce's board resurrected

Members say move to dissolve board was unconstitutional

Tuesday, December 20 2011 || News || BY Claire Rogers, Businessday.co.nz

Members of the Wellington Employers' Chamber of Commerce have voted to confirm its board is still alive after it was wrongly dissolved earlier this year.

The board was dissolved after it and the Employers' Chamber of Commerce Central board decided there should be only one board for the two organisations, following the merger of the Wellington Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Employers and Manufacturers Association Central.

But members at the ECCC's annual meeting last month said the move was unconstitutional.

Members at a reconvened annual meeting yesterday approved resolutions confirming the move had not been legally effective and the board still existed.

Chamber chief executive Ken Harris said the resolutions were passed without dissent.

The WECC would hold an annual meeting before the end of February, and work through the required processes to elect a board, he said.

The WECC is the Wellington branch of the ECCC, which is owned and managed by its members.
